Open Geospatial Data Science

Prof.  Sergio Rey, Director, Center for Geospatial Sciences and Professor, School of Public Policy, UCR
ABSTRACT –

In this talk, I present an overview of spatial data science research occurring at the newly formed UCR Center for Geospatial Sciences. I first examine the broader context of geospatial data science and its intersection with the open source and open science movements. Next, I provide an overview of the open source Python Spatial Analysis Library (PySAL), with particular attention given to PySAL's history, motivation, components, and adoption. In the second part of the talk, I present the use of new spatial analytics in PySAL supporting ongoing research projects in socioeconomic neighborhood dynamics. I close with a discussion of future work that will develop scalable geospatial analytics for social science research.
